The ones on the boat are.Lots of corn and such in this area.
It looks like a proper working boat, as opposed to the pleasure-oriented paddles steamers that we've seen elsewhere this week. Great image - thanks for sharing it.
It was surely an enjoyable ride, after all the hard work of loading the ship!
This area use to see hundreds of these. Not a one around anymore.
I wouldn't have fancied carrying heavy sacks across what looks like littel more than a plank A real working ship.

There is something very peaceful about the scene, but I can't imagine why as it is full of people working hard.
Kinda like the narrow boats of the mid west USA.
